The vast majority of crane incidents occur as a result of operator error. This course is designed to introduce the learner to the basic concepts, hazards, hazard control processes and safe work procedures associated with operating overhead cranes. It follows the regulations, guidelines, principles and recommendations established by the Alberta Occupational Health and Safety Act, Regulations and Code.
At the end of this course the end-user should be familiar with the basics of rigging a load and operating the overhead crane safely.
If you prefer classroom training, which includes both the knowledge and basic skills portions, OR have already completed the online knowledge portion of this course and require a skills assessment, click “Training Partner” to find one near you.
End-users should not assume this material alone constitutes complete training. It is expected that a workplace will apply this information as they create their own company specific Overhead Crane Operator program as part of their company’s larger Health & Safety Management System.
Due to the different policies and procedures and equipment utilized on different work sites certain statements in this program may not apply.
